Jo Ellen Thomas  is from Indianapolis, Indiana. She has a B.A. in English literature and is licensed to teach Secondary English Education. She is an experienced language arts teacher with experience in private schools.  Her past work experience includes teaching grades  6-12 English at an Islamic school, including World Literature, American Literature, AP Language and Composition, and AP Literature and Composition.  She has developed extensive teaching units for the Treasury of Muslim Literature, focusing on the language arts class with crossover to other subjects.

A few notes about the lesson plans given here:

1.   These are the beginning lesson plans of the anthology and are aimed at classes which have English-as-a-second-language students. Teachers who have more advanced classes will probably want to skip some parts of the lesson.

2.   The first lesson plan demonstrates how a history selection can be advantageously used in the language arts class. The second lesson plan demonstrates how a religious selection can be advantageously used in the language arts class.

3.   The remaining lesson plans will be forthcoming, and purchase of the book will be required to receive a password that will enable you to access the remaining lessons.

Selections from Chapter One:
